Traditional Mongolian 2 stringed bowed instrument, the Morin Khuur is the national instrument in Mongolia. Also called Fiddle with a horse head, its origins has different mythological backgrounds.

It features an expansive musical range and great sound expression. Tsedendorj Mishig, a well-known Mongolian poet celebrated it in a poem, writing:

Only its two strings express
All the events of the world.

Morin khuur is played during festive events, social gatherings, ceremonies, rituals, accompanying songs, folk dances, folk stories, epic singing, eulogies and praise songs.
